The Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) serves as a trusted steward of charitable giving throughout southern Missouri. By managing donor funds, endowments, scholarships, and charitable investments, the Foundation helps connect donors with causes that strengthen communities across the region. As a financial partner to hundreds of nonprofit organizations, CFO plays a vital role in ensuring charitable resources create lasting local impact.
To support its growing operations, CFO renovated the fourth floor of its new headquarters, creating modern office space, collaborative meeting areas, and an updated work environment for the organization’s staff. As part of the renovation, the Foundation also sought to modernize its aging building systems, replacing outdated pneumatic controls with a more efficient, digital building automation platform.
Control Service Company (CSC) partnered with JE Dunn Construction and Gold Mechanical to implement an Automated Logic WebCTRL® building automation system that would modernize operations while preparing the building for future HVAC improvements.
Originally constructed in the 1960s, the building relied on aging pneumatic controls that limited visibility into HVAC performance and made system adjustments more labor-intensive. The renovation presented an opportunity to replace those legacy controls with a modern automation system while the building remained occupied.
The initial phase focused on supporting the fourth-floor renovation, which serves as the operational hub for the Community Foundation’s staff. Following the success of that project, CFO expanded its investment to include integration of the building’s air handling units and boiler systems, creating a more connected and efficient building automation strategy.
Throughout construction, CSC carefully coordinated work to minimize disruption to daily operations, allowing the Foundation to continue serving donors, nonprofit partners, and the community throughout the renovation process.
CSC implemented an Automated Logic WebCTRL building automation system as part of the transition from pneumatic controls to a modern digital platform.
The new system provides facility personnel with centralized control and visibility into HVAC operations through intuitive graphics, scheduling, alarms, and system monitoring. In the second phase of the project, CSC expanded the system by integrating the building’s existing air handling units and boiler systems, enhancing operational efficiency without requiring equipment replacement.
Rather than replacing functional mechanical equipment, CSC focused on improving how the systems communicate and operate together. Updated programming and energy-saving sequences allow the building’s HVAC equipment to respond more efficiently while giving facility staff greater insight into building performance.
CSC was selected through a competitive bid process with support from RTM Design Engineers, building on a strong reputation for delivering dependable building automation solutions. The success of the initial renovation phase reinforced CFO’s confidence in CSC’s technical expertise, communication, and project execution.
The first phase was completed under budget, leading the Foundation to move forward with additional building automation improvements sooner than originally anticipated. The continued partnership reflects the value CFO found not only in the WebCTRL platform, but also in CSC’s collaborative approach and long-term commitment to client success.
The Community Foundation of the Ozarks exists to strengthen communities by helping charitable organizations maximize their impact. By modernizing the headquarters that supports those efforts every day, CFO invested in a facility designed to operate more efficiently while providing a comfortable, collaborative workplace for its staff.
Through thoughtful building automation, updated programming, and phased system integration, CSC helped transform a building originally constructed in the 1960s into a modern, more connected facility. The project demonstrates how strategic building automation can extend the life of existing mechanical systems, improve operational efficiency, and create lasting value without requiring complete equipment replacement.
As CFO continues supporting nonprofits throughout southern Missouri, its headquarters is now equipped with a building automation system designed to serve the organization well into the future.
