The Integrated Learning House is Building Skills, Confidence, and Community at Ray-Pec

"The Integrated Learning House: Building Skills, Confidence, and Community at Ray-Pec"

The Integrated Learning House (ILH) is more than a classroom—it is a real-world environment where learning transforms into independence. Designed like a fully functional home, the ILH provides students with special needs the opportunity to practice daily living skills. From cooking and cleaning to budgeting and home maintenance, students gain hands-on experience that builds both confidence and independence.

From the beginning, the ILH has been a story of collaboration. Ray-Pec LEAD Center students in carpentry, electrical, HVAC, art, design, botany, and field biology worked alongside local professionals to bring the project to life. Even more inspiring, much of the house was funded through donations of money, materials, and time from businesses and community members.

What makes the ILH truly unique is the way it fosters inclusion. Special education students and their peers practice skills together, while Scholar Teacher participants gain valuable mentoring experience. These shared moments build empathy, strengthen confidence, and create connections that go beyond the classroom.

The Integrated Learning House demonstrates what happens when vision, community, and care come together. It prepares students for independence, showcases the power of partnerships, and highlights why Ray-Pec continues to stand out. This is “Choice Happens Here” in action.
