Finalists' Concept Designs on Display at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Kansas City, MO – The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art has unveiled the concept designs of six finalist teams in its competition to transform the museum. The designs, created by renowned architects, aim to attract new audiences and offer immersive, interactive experiences. The public can view the designs in an online gallery and at a free exhibition at the museum from March 15 to June 1, 2025. Feedback can be provided at the exhibition or online.

The Architect Selection Committee will interview finalists in late Spring and recommend a design to the Board of Trustees. The chosen design will integrate the museum campus, sculpture park, and existing buildings into a cohesive experience. The project responds to the community’s growing needs and aims to serve future generations.

The competition attracted 182 teams from 30 countries. The museum’s Board of Trustees seeks to evolve the museum as a place of belonging. The project includes a new addition of approximately 61,000 square feet, part-renovation of the original building, and enhancement of the outdoor campus, all within a sustainability strategy.
