Ensuring Excellence in Mental Health Facilities
Control Service Company (CSC) played a vital role in developing a state-of-the-art mental health facility for Children’s Mercy and Camber Mental Health. This 72-bed project prioritized safety, functionality, and energy efficiency. CSC collaborated with JE Dunn (general contractor), P1 Group (mechanical contractor), and BranchPattern Engineering, who specifically recommended CSC for its advanced system expertise.
Goals and Challenges
The project set out to create a secure, welcoming space tailored to mental health patients. One major challenge involved integrating tamper-resistant equipment that could withstand everyday use while supporting patient safety. For instance, CSC designed thermostats with flush-mounted, stainless-steel covers to prevent tampering or damage—without sacrificing a clean, professional appearance.
CSC's Solution
CSC implemented Automated Logic WebCTRL to deliver cutting-edge HVAC and fire alarm integration. WebCTRL’s user-friendly interface gave the facility team powerful tools, including a thermographic building view. This feature enabled real-time, color-coded monitoring of temperature zones for easy, accurate management. Additionally, the system offered remote alerts, allowing staff to respond quickly to fire alarms or other urgent events.
Installation Highlights
While the project was technically straightforward, CSC’s commitment to precision and quality truly stood out. Key installation features included:
-
Tamper-Resistant Design: CSC adapted thermostats and other components to meet stringent mental health facility safety standards.
-
Energy Efficiency Programming: They implemented default energy-saving features—like outside air reset—to boost HVAC performance.
-
Seamless Integration: CSC carefully aligned HVAC and fire alarm systems to support unified, reliable building operations.
Client Experience
“Tony and the entire CSC team were great to work with on the OPH Mental Health project. Tony was always responsive; weather it was a quick phone call or a trip to our office to go over things with me, I could always count on him to get the information I needed quickly. Controls work is so involved; there are so many moving pieces, but the field team was always working seamlessly with our team to keep the project moving along.” – Lauren Titzman, Project Manager P1 Group
Looking ahead, CSC remains committed to ongoing client support. Whether through service agreements or rapid-response help, they prioritize long-term satisfaction.
Significance
This facility marks a major step forward for mental health services in the region. By combining thoughtful design with cutting-edge building automation, CSC helped deliver a safe, efficient, and future-ready environment. Their expertise once again proved essential in meeting high standards—and reinforcing their role as a trusted partner in healthcare facility development.
In 2026 Children’s Mercy + Chamber Mental Health received the Award of Excellence from the Associated General Contractors of America of Kansas State Building Awards in collaboration with JE Dunn.
