Ensuring Excellence in Mental Health Facilities
Control Service Company (CSC) played a critical role in the development of a state-of-the-art mental health facility for Children’s Mercy and Camber Mental Health. This project encompassed 72 beds and was designed with a focus on safety, functionality, and energy efficiency. The collaboration involved JE Dunn as the general contractor, P1 Group as the mechanical contractor, and BranchPattern Engineering, which recommended CSC for its specialized expertise.
Goals and Challenges
The project aimed to create a safe, welcoming environment tailored to the needs of mental health patients. A key requirement was integrating specialized, tamper-resistant equipment to support safety and durability in sensitive areas. For example, thermostats were designed with flush-mounted, stainless-steel covers to prevent tampering or accidental damage while maintaining a clean and professional aesthetic.
CSC's Solution
CSC utilized Automated Logic WebCTRL, to deliver advanced HVAC and fire alarm integrations. WebCTRL’s user-friendly design provided the facility team with intuitive tools, including a thermographic view of the building. This feature enables real-time monitoring of temperature zones with color-coded visuals for easy management. The system also allows for remote alerts, ensuring the team can respond to fire alarms or other critical situations efficiently.
Installation Highlights
Despite being a straightforward project, CSC’s meticulous attention to detail set them apart. Notable aspects included:
· Tamper-Resistant Design: Thermostats and other components were adapted to meet rigorous safety standards.
· Energy Efficiency Programming: Default energy-saving measures, such as outside air reset, were implemented to optimize HVAC performance.
· Seamless Integration: HVAC and fire alarm systems were carefully coordinated to ensure comprehensive and reliable building management.
Client Experience
“Tony and the entire CSC team were great to work with on the OPH Mental Health project. Tony was always responsive; weather it was a quick phone call or a trip to our office to go over things with me, I could always count on him to get the information I needed quickly. Controls work is so involved; there are so many moving pieces, but the field team was always working seamlessly with our team to keep the project moving along.” – Lauren Titzman, Project Manager P1 Group
CSC plans to provide ongoing support, whether through service agreements or on-demand assistance, underscoring their dedication to client satisfaction.
Significance
This facility will have a lasting impact on the community by providing critical mental health services in a thoughtfully designed environment. CSC’s expertise in building automation and safety solutions ensured the project met the highest standards, reaffirming their reputation as a trusted partner in healthcare facility development.
