Project Overview
Garmin, a global leader in navigation and wearable technology, operates out of their headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. The campus includes offices, data rooms, training facilities, warehouses, gyms, and labs. Maintaining comfort, efficiency, and reliability across diverse spaces is no small task.
Control Service Company (CSC) partnered with Garmin to retrofit existing systems that were no longer fitting their structure, and expand automation into new construction projects. By leveraging Automated Logic and Crestron technology, CSC worked to unify building management, improve operational efficiency, and provide a more user-friendly platform for Garmin’s facility staff.
Goals and Challenges
The project began as a retrofit and expanded to include new buildings and integrations across the campus. Some unique HVAC configurations required custom solutions, while ensuring smooth integration under a single provider.
Budget pushback created challenges along the way, requiring CSC to demonstrate cost efficiency and long-term value. Since most of the campus remained operational during changeovers, maintaining continuity for employees and operations was also critical.
CSC's Solution
CSC implemented HVAC and lighting controls using Automated Logic’s WebCTRL® platform and Crestron technology, ensuring scalability and user-friendliness.
Key steps included:
- Training integrations early to minimize disruption during full changeovers.
- Interfacing with existing systems while expanding automation into new facilities.
- Coordinating work around occupied spaces, including warehouses and offices, without interrupting daily operations.
Results and Impact
To date, CSC has completed upgrades across seven Garmin buildings, including warehouses and office spaces. The unified automation system has delivered:
- Streamlined operational efficiencies.
- A more reliable, user-friendly platform for facilities staff.
- Improved consistency across diverse environments, from offices to data centers.
By centralizing HVAC and lighting under one system, Garmin gained better oversight of energy performance, comfort, and long-term maintenance across its expanding headquarters.
Why CSC
Garmin selected CSC for its proven ability to deliver better controls, consolidate systems under one provider, and provide ongoing support. With experience in both retrofits and new construction, CSC ensured Garmin’s headquarters could scale alongside its growth while maintaining high performance standards.
CSC continues to support Garmin’s innovation and employees by creating smart, efficient, and reliable environments across the multi-building campus.
