Driving performance and efficiency through smart building controls
Control Service Company partnered with Master’s Transportation on the company’s new Kansas City, Missouri headquarters—a multi-building campus supporting manufacturing, service, and administrative operations. CSC provided complete HVAC controls using Automated Logic’s WebCTRL platform, integrating systems across three distinct facilities: a warehouse and production area, a service building, and a two-story office Building.
The Solution
The project required close coordination to establish reliable communication between systems in each building while ensuring consistent performance and control. CSC worked closely with Blue Oak Technologies, Master’s Transportation IT and Facilities teams, and project partners—including Miller Stauch (General Contractor), Metro Air Mechanical, Capital Electric, and Eske Design—to develop a network architecture that met the owner’s requirements for both remote and internal BAS access. The system features a geothermal chilled water setup, a not as common, but highly efficient alternative to traditional cooling towers. This configuration supports energy-efficient heating and cooling across the campus through six geothermal pumps, three ground loops, ten rooftop units, four dedicated outdoor air units, 20 exhaust fans, and 68 heat pumps—all seamlessly integrated within Automated Logic’s platform.
Project Challenges
CSC successfully navigated supply chain delays and a non-negotiable move-in date, completing installation, commissioning, and facilities training while employees were actively moving in and beginning operations. The team’s adaptability and communication ensured systems came online smoothly without interrupting daily activity.
Technology and Integration
Automated Logic’s WebCTRL platform provides Master’s Transportation with real-time visibility and control of all HVAC systems across the campus. The system connects through a server-client configuration hosted on the company’s internal network, allowing facilities personnel to access and manage building conditions both locally and remotely. A proposal for future integration of the paint booth system is under consideration, further expanding automation capabilities across the manufacturing operation.
Impact
Master’s Transportation’s new headquarters demonstrates how smart building controls and geothermal technology can elevate efficiency and comfort across a complex, multi-use facility. By delivering a reliable, adaptable, and data-driven control system, Control Service Company helped Master’s Transportation achieve long-term sustainability and seamless operational performance.
